Over the last almost eight years of trying to grow our family, God has impressed many lessons upon my heart. One recurring theme is that Christ is the believer’s treasure. More than anything or anyone else, knowing Christ should be His children’s deepest desire.
There have been seasons in my life when Christ’s friendship was so sweet, and there have been seasons where instead, I have longed for a reprieve from the trials of life more than I have longed for fellowship with my King. I know – that’s wrong.
As we grieved this last miscarriage, I felt God again lay on my heart, “Christ is your treasure.” I remember thinking, “But God, He’s every believers treasure, yet other believers have health, big families, money, energy… Can’t He be my treasure and I have less suffering?”
Later that day I was reading a short article where the author touched on the idea that the people who need Christ more experience Him on a level other believers may never know. That’s when it hit me: The deeper the need, the deeper the treasure.
The more we need God’s grace, strength, wisdom, and companionship, the more our troubled souls find rest – because we start digging into His Word for relief from our suffering and questions. His provisions never run out, so as much or as often or as desperately as we need Him, He’ll be there… and He’ll be enough. At Christ’s feet, we watch in amazement while His grace overflows to meet our needs, and there, He becomes more and more our treasure.
While I still pray for more children here and continue to search for medical answers for my health, I am so thankful Christ is more a treasure to me today than He was all those years ago. That is perhaps the best thing that has come from my suffering and waiting. And what makes my heart sing? The best is yet to come. His companionship only gets sweeter, and it is mine to enjoy for all of eternity.
Not only is Christ the believer’s treasure, but He treasures me. Is that not an incomprehensible truth? “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter 2:9-10
Whatever your need today, let Christ be the answer. He’s always willing to hear your cares, catch your tears, and guide you with the truth of His Word. So, rejoice! In both the good and the difficult seasons, Christ’s love is enough to satisfy the hungry soul. Oh what a treasure that is!
*“Come rejoice now, O my soul. For Your love is my reward. Fear is gone and hope is sure. Christ is mine, forevermore!
“Mine the keys to Zion’s city, where beside the King I’ll walk.
“For there my heart has found its treasure – Christ is mine forevermore.”
