Prayers From the Psalms

Do you ever feel like you’ve run out of words? I’m sorry my blogging has been scant these last couple months. But God has been working in my heart, and I hope to share those lessons with you all very soon. In the meantime, here are some wonderfully sweet prayers from the Psalms, in case you’ve run out of words too.

When God Feels Silent:

“Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever! Why do you hide your face? Why do you forget our affliction and oppression? For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly clings to the ground. Rise up; come to our help! Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love!” Psalms 44:23-26

When Our Hearts Are Overwhelmed

“Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.” Psalms 61:1-3

When We Need Wisdom

“The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.” Psalms 19:7-11

When We Sin

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!” Psalms 51:1-2

When We Struggle to Trust

“This God-his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.” Psalms 18:30

When We Feel Unsatisfied

“Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.” Psalms 63:3-8

When Our Suffering Feels Overlooked

“I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul…” Psalms 31:7

When We Are Waiting on God

“But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.” Psalms 69:13

When God Answers Our Cry

“Out of my distress I called on the LORD; the LORD answered me and set me free. The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.” Psalms 118:5;14

When Our Hearts Are Full of Praise

“I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.” Psalms 145:1-3

These are a just a few examples of the literally hundreds of prayers the Psalms provide for us. May they bring us peace as we call upon our God.

❤️ Grace

“17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works.
18 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.
20 The LORD preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.
21 My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.” Psalms 145:17-21
