Fertility Story Part 7

As the absolute last option we could think of, one of my doctors decided to run a reproductive immunology work up. It’s hard to test for, & most of the diseases aren’t even treated in the United States. She could run the labs, but we also began working with doctors in Greece & Canada for follow up protocols if necessary.

Sure enough. After literally years of searching for “the” answer to our struggles, I was diagnosed with Antiphospholipid Antibodies (APS) & immune issues. I was advised to put off trying until we could be tested further & then treated.

We contacted a doctor in Canada & began the process of meeting with him. Filled out paperwork for passports. Started planning the trip. We knew it would drain all of our savings, as well as be a long process. All this while something tugged at my heart. It was like God kept pressing me – “What are you hoping in, Grace? Who are you trusting?”

I knew I was hoping this new diagnosis & treatment would work for us. The plan was to test & treat in Canada, have PRP done to boost my ovulation & ovarian health, then go back to my original doctor for an IUI, & continue with an immune suppressant protocol.

My husband & I promised each other this would be it. One last year of trying. That would make our total journey an even ten years & then we’d walk away. We weren’t quitting; we just knew we couldn’t let fertility keep sucking the life out of us anymore.
